Ryan Reynolds, reprising his role as Deadpool, made an unannounced and characteristically chaotic appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, crashing Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation to make a very public plea: he wants a spot in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday.”

The moment unfolded during what was supposed to be a routine panel teasing the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to multiple attendees, Reynolds - or rather, Deadpool - simply walked onstage mid-presentation, interrupting Marvel president Kevin Feige, who appeared to be genuinely caught off guard. The Merc with a Mouth wasted no time. He dropped to one knee, clasped his hands theatrically, and began an improvised monologue directed at Feige and the packed auditorium, essentially begging for a role in the multiverse-spanning team-up film.

“Look, I’ve done the solo thing, I’ve done the cameo thing, I’ve even done the Christmas special thing,” Deadpool reportedly said, pacing the stage. “But I haven’t done the ‘standing next to Thor while trying not to make a joke about his weight’ thing. And I really, really want to. Give me a number. Any number. I’ll be the guy who brings the chimichangas. I’ll be the guy who gets killed in the first ten minutes and then comes back because my healing factor is ridiculous. Just put me in, Kevin.”

The crowd erupted in cheers and laughter, and for a few minutes, it seemed like the entire convention was on its feet. While no official deal was announced, the incident immediately set the internet ablaze with speculation. Reynolds himself has previously indicated interest in crossing over with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but has also acknowledged the tonal challenges of merging the crass, meta-humor of “Deadpool” with the family-friendly blockbuster aesthetic of the Avengers. On stage, he acknowledged that very dilemma, joking that he had already amended his contract to allow for “fewer F-bombs and exactly one decapitation per movie.”

“I’m willing to compromise,” Deadpool told the audience. “I’ll even let Captain America call me a jackass. I want this role so bad I’ll wear a tie. Well, a tie that’s actually a belt, but still.”

The stunt is vintage Reynolds, who has turned Comic-Con appearances into a personal art form. That film saw Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine team up and directly introduced the character into the broader MCU timeline, making a future “Avengers” appearance feel more like an inevitability than a question. Reynolds’ public plea may have been performative, but it signals that negotiations - or at least conversations - are likely already in progress.

Beyond the immediate buzz, the appearance has reignited debates about how much of Deadpool’s signature edginess will survive in a Disney-controlled franchise. Some fans worry that the character’s bite would be blunted, while others point to the success of “Deadpool & Wolverine” as proof that audiences are ready for an Avengers movie that can handle an R-rated edge. Marvel has not indicated whether “Avengers: Doomsday” will maintain the PG-13 standard, but with Deadpool in the mix, ratings flexibility could become a topic of discussion.

As for Reynolds, he left the stage as abruptly as he arrived - after grabbing Feige’s water bottle and taking a long, theatrical swig. Security eventually escorted him off, but not before he turned back and yelled, “You know where to find me! Same place as always: lurking outside your office window, Keith!”

Whether “Keith” was a deliberate misnomer or a genuine slip remains unclear. What is clear is that Deadpool has made his pitch, and the ball is now in Marvel’s court. With Comic-Con still buzzing and the internet already memeing the moment into the ground, the pressure is on Feige to decide whether the Merc with a Mouth deserves a seat at the Avengers table.
