Criminologist Amelia Pembrock (Maggie Grace) is a woman who reads crime scenes like scripture. Her counterpart, psychologist Alan Kramer (Devon Sawa), reads the people left behind. When a child’s body is pulled from the muddy banks of the Mississippi after a flood, the two are summoned to a remote, claustrophobic town where the victim’s twin sister has vanished without a trace. The local police, led by the weary Captain Graysmith (Tiffany Haddish, playing it stone-cold serious), is out of leads. The parents - especially the brittle Julie Trembley (Sarah Murphree) - are out of hope.
Pembrock and Kramer immediately clash: she trusts physical evidence, he trusts emotional truth. Their uneasy alliance is soon complicated by Colin Ripley (Ralph Macchio), a grizzled local real estate baron with too much influence over the town’s secrets. As the duo digs deeper, they uncover a pattern of buried histories, flooded graves, and a town that would rather let the river swallow its sins than face them. The twin, Luke (Cody Lemmon), isn’t just missing - she’s a key that unlocks a cycle of violence that Benetton suggests has been flowing under the surface for decades.
